We would like to begin by thanking all of you for helping to make last year’s “Name That Book” contest such a success. We thank the PTA for generously providing us with multiple copies of the books, and also thank the teachers, students, and parents for all of their support and enthusiasm. For those of you new to our school,
“Name that Book” is a wonderful reading opportunity for every Dirksen student. The students are given a list of books and are encouraged to read as many books from the list as possible. In the fall, classroom teachers will assign each student to a “book team.” These teams will then compete in the “Name that Book” game which will be played in the spring. Grades kindergarten through 2nd will play within their classrooms. The kindergarten through 2nd grade books will be read aloud in the classroom or library.
Some of the books from the 3rd/4th and 5th/6th list will be used as “read alouds” in the classroom, but most of the books will be read independently by the students. Grades 3rd through 6th will compete against other classrooms. In Round One, each classroom will have up to 6 teams that play against the other teams in their classroom. The six highest scoring teams will participate in the Championship Round which will be held in the gym.
Happy Reading!!
